EMAT (Electromagnetic Acoustic Transducer) technology is used for crack detection and integrity assessment in pipelines where liquid couplant is not available or practical — primarily gas transmission pipelines.
EMAT generates ultrasonic shear-horizontal waves directly in the pipe wall through electromagnetic induction. This means it can detect surface-breaking cracks, SCC (Stress Corrosion Cracking), and coating disbondment without requiring the pipeline to be filled with liquid.
PIPECARE's EMAT tools combine high-resolution crack sensors with tri-axial Hall sensors for simultaneous metal-loss evaluation, providing comprehensive integrity data in a single inspection run. The technology is compliant with API 1163, NACE SP0102, and API 579.
